Where’s Your Money Going? Council’s Record of Poor Spending

Updated: Jul 1

The average Edmonton homeowner saw a property tax increase of 8.9% in 2024 and another 5.7% in 2025—a combined hit of over 15%. But where’s that money going?

Let’s look at a few examples:

1. $100 Million in Cost Overruns on Valley Line LRT. The LRT is years late and millions over budget. Despite this, council still rubber-stamped new funding without accountability.

2. “End Poverty Edmonton” was quietly defunded. Council eliminated $600,000 in poverty supports, yet found money for bike lane expansions and an increase in their own salaries.

3. $80,000 Spent on External Consultants… for an Internal Audit, instead of tightening belts, council paid outside firms to tell them what residents already know: spending is out of control.

My Pledge:

  • I will push to freeze all new spending until a full audit is done.

  • I’ll vote no on projects with missing business cases.

  • I will ensure that the people of Edmonton are well informed and consulted prior to major City spending.

Edmonton families are being taxed more to get less. I’m running to flip that equation. Its time we bring home higher paychecks for Edmonton and provide a higher quality of services.
